This summer, we have a jam-packed schedule of activities to keep young minds active, inspired and entertained. 

 


Stockwood Discovery Centre

With free site entry, Stockwood Discovery Centre is the ideal spot for a family day out this summer. The museum features extensive local collections, award-winning carriage displays, beautiful gardens, a children's playground and the newly refurbished Garden Café, plus don't miss out on our special Stockwood events happening throughout the holidays.

Stockwood Discovery Centre

Take a journey of discovery this summer at Stockwood Discovery Centre with 4 specially themed weeks of live shows, unique performances, arts and crafts workshops, activities and a whole lot of family fun.

 

Week 1: Discover Dinosaurs

Thu 26 - Sun 29 Jul, various times

A weekend of Dinosaur discovery, with a storytelling performance by Mike Dodsworth followed by dinosaur arts & crafts and an amazing dinosaur show from Los Kaos.

Age guidance: 3 - 8 years

 

Week 2: Discover Puppetry

Thu 2 - Sun 5 Aug, various times 

Be captivated by a spellbinding, interactive puppetry performance from a pair of wonderful wanderers, followed by a fireside tale from Granddad and some puppet-making fun.

Age guidance: 3 - 8 years

 

Week 3: Discover the Circus

Thu 9 - Sun 12 Aug, various times

Be wowed by a unique magic show from Professor Strange, before making your own juggling balls and learning how to use them in our jam-packed circus skills workshop.

Age guidance: 3 - 8 years

 

Week 4: Discover Nature

Thu 16 - Sun 19 Aug, various times

Set off on a bug-tastic adventure this weekend! Learn all about insects and how important they are to us, before getting creative in a craft workshop.

Wardown House, Museum and Gallery

Set in the charming grounds of Wardown Park, with free site entry, the museum boasts beautifully refurbished Victorian interiors, hands-on displays for a fully immersive experience and interactive trails to enchant the whole family. This summer there are performances and exhibitions to delight and inspire young and old.

Paul Hogarth – Sketches Laporte 

Wed 25 - Sun 2 Sep, every day 10am - 5pm

A display of sketches by Paul Hogarth (1917–2001), a highly regarded English artist and illustrator.

Theatre in the Museums: The Secret Diary 

Tue 24 Jul, 7 & 21 Aug, 11.30am, 1.30pm & 2.30pm 

Join our eccentric curator Max on a journey around Wardown House to learn about the museum's history and discover the mystery of the secret diary!

Age guidance: 6 +

 

Theatre in the Museums: The Lost Letter

A mysterious letter arrives at the museum. Can you help curator, Max MacDonald solve the puzzle?

Summer Sundays: Punch and Judy Show 

Sun 12 Aug, 2pm, 2.45pm & 3.30pm

That’s the way to do it! This Sunday don't miss our traditional Punch and Judy show.

Summer Sundays: Caricaturist 

Sun 26 Aug, 2 - 4pm, Wardown House

Strike a pose and have a quick caricature drawn of you!

Summer Sundays: Shambles Big Band 

Sun 2 Sep, 2 - 4pm, Wardown House

Sit back and relax to the toe tapping sounds of some well-known tunes played by Shambles Big Band.
