Luton Culture and Filmstock present
A unique opportunity to connect with practicing artists contributing to The Hat District Creative Ecosystem.
As part of our Creative Ecosystem, Luton Culture invites artists engaged in the development and creation of the Hat District project to talk about their work, their practice and the work they have created to inspire the people and young creative talent of Luton.
About the artist
Justin John Doherty is a freelance filmmaker and photographer working across narrative, documentary and corporate fields. Based in Luton, his time is divided between his visual work and running creative projects. In 2014 he built and opened The Bear Club, a jazz and blues venue and in 2017, he completed his first feature film 'Wilderness', winning 13 awards at 19 festivals world-wide.
He co-founded the Filmstock Film Festival in 2000 at the age of 20, and ran it for 10 years. In 2018 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Arts, for services to his hometown.
2019 sees the return of the festival to Luton, after a busy hiatus and a decade of varied creative output.
In this session, Justin will open up all the history, tricks and war stories behind being a festival maker, a film producer and a freelance director for 20 years.
Audience members are invited to continue conversations in the café with the artists afterwards until 7.30pm.
Suitable for all, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Audience are requested to arrive by 5.30pm
