Luton Culture presents

Are you a bit of a wordsmith, an aspiring Playwright or writing a screen play?

Luton Culture is opening its Script Lab writing competition for its second year to uncover exciting new talent across the Three Counties.

Luton Culture are looking for local writers regardless of age or experience to submit their work to Script Lab.

There are two categories this year one for play scripts and (for the first time), one for screen plays. All scripts will be read by a panel of industry professionals and if selected, writers will be offered the following:

Play Scripts
- Detailed script feedback and structured mentorship from industry professionals
- A professional director and acting company to transport their script from page to stage for a rehearsed reading at The Hat Factory on 23 or 24 June 2017.

Screen Plays
- Detailed script feedback and structured mentorship from industry professionals
- A professional table top reading at The Hat Factory on 23 or 24 June 2017.

Script Lab is a developmental programme with the core aim of nurturing exciting new script writing talent and developing undiscovered gems. Script Lab also looks to facilitate new creative partnerships, and future collaborations. We are currently developing ‘A Serious Business’, one of the plays entered for last year’s competition, to tour in Autumn 2017.

Script Submission Period

- Monday 9 January 2017 to Sunday 26 March 2017
- A shortlist of playwrights will be announced on Friday 7 April 2017
- Final Script Lab playwrights will be announced on Friday 14 April 2017

Guidelines

- Script Lab is interested in one-act plays, as well as full length pieces.
- We will judge entries on a 20 minute excerpt or less. If the piece entered is over this length, we will only read and judge the entry on the first 20 minutes of the script
- A Synopsis or Script Treatment of the full length piece can be submitted alongside the 20 minute excerpt to give the reader a full understanding of the piece.
- Script Lab accepts work from all writers regardless of age or level of experience.
- Script Lab is particularly focused on developing the work of local writers based in the Three Counties (Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire)
- All work submitted must be sent via email and attached as either a PDF or Word document.

Please submit your scripts to: script.lab@lutonculture.com
