Desi Central Comedy and Altaf Sarwar present

Desi Central return to Luton for an evening of laughter.  Hosted by Mickey Sharma with comedy from Sukh Ojla, Tez Ilyas & Omar Hamdi

Mickey Sharma:

Mickey Sharma’s mix of comedy and another form of artistry (you will see what I mean) make him as unique as he is funny. His high and contagious energy helps him tame any crowd no matter their age, gender, ethnicity or amount of alcohol consumed.

Mickey is extremely comfortable anywhere on the bill; be it MC, opening or closing. A highly regarded act that will have you trying to copy his catchy material (unsuccessfully) for a long time after seeing him.

Mickey is an Indian that was born in Pakistan (its true!) in ’82 while his father was working for the Indian Embassy. After living in Pakistan, the family moved to Beijing, then Hong Kong, before finally moving back to India in ’90, where he lived till 9th September ’02, when he moved to Birmingham!

Having endured various jobs like a waiter, shelf stacker, camera assistant and Bouncer, Mickey started comedy in July ’09 and now works as a full time comic and travels all over the UK and sometimes abroad (Spain, Romania, India, Czech Republic). Amongst other competitions, he was Winner Bath Comedy Festival New Act Competition 2010.

Sukh Ojla:

Sukh Kaur Ojla is a UK based actress, writer, comedian and professional daydreamer.

Sukh has appeared in a number of theatre productions as well as TV appearances such as Victoria and Abdul, Black Mirror & EastEnders.

Sukh is one of the names to watch out for on the comedy circuit. Having played from small rooms she was recently selected for the BBC Asian Network Live event – her observation about the disadvantages of having to move back in with her parents, including not being allowed to ever turn over from the Sikh channel featured as one of the funniest moments of the night!

Omar Hamdi:

Fresh from a national tour supporting Russell Kane, various TV appearances, and presenting for BBC Radio 2, Omar Hamdi is “just what the comedy scene has been crying out for” according to the Daily Telegraph. He has appeared on BBC Wales in shows including Search for an A Star, where he retook his A Level History – with no revision just cramming – and The Big Welsh Christmas Quiz.

As a high-energy, affable Welsh-Egyptian comic, Omar makes the personal political and the political personal, with a disarming every-man charm.

Omar is currently preparing a brand new show for this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and is a headline act at clubs around the UK and overseas, including Avalon Comedy Network venues.

Tez Ilyas:

Tez Ilyas the ground running finding himself in no less than eight competition finals including the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award and Leicester Mercury New Comedian of the Year in his first year as a stand up. In 2015 Ilyas achieved phenomenal success with his debut stand up hour TEZ Talks. A sell out run at the Soho Theatre and his own Radio 4 series based on the show followed, with a second series quickly being recommissioned.

In 2016, his highly anticipated follow up show Made in Britain went on to sell out every single performance (including extra shows) at the Edinburgh Fringe and gained spectacular critical acclaim, with a smash hit nationwide tour in 2017.

His third show Teztify once again delivered a spectacularly powerful, provocative and brilliantly funny hour of topical stand up, delivering to packed out audiences night after night.

Tez has appeared on The Last Leg (C4), Mock the Week (BBC Two), Live From the BBC (BBC Two), Man Like Mobeen (BBC Three), Live from the Comedy Store (Comedy Central), Kevin Hart's Live from Montreal (LOL Network), Virtually Famous (E4), The Now Show (BBC Radio 4) and made a brand new quiz show pilot for Vice. He has also written and starred in his own scripted comedy shorts for BBC Three, BBC iPlayer and Sky Arts.
