Luton Libraries get Well and Wise

31 January 2018

Luton Culture’s Library Makers project will be giving local residents an opportunity to top up their health for free from Saturday 10th February, with the launch of a fresh new ‘Well & Wise’ space in Luton’s Central Library.

The new facility includes a consultation room and comfortable, quiet seating area and aims to help Luton communities access health and wellbeing information, services and events. It will be officially opened at 12 noon on the 10th by Luton Councillor Rachel Hopkins and Luton Culture’s Director of Culture & Engagement, Karen Perkins, and a range local health and wellbeing organisations will be on hand on the day to offer information and advice on a number of useful topics.

A full week of activities from Monday 12th February will celebrate the opening of the space, inviting Luton residents to get Well & Wise.  There are a number of key themes across the week with specialist health providers advising and signposting visitors on particular issues:

  • Monday 12th (11am-5pm) - creating and maintaining a healthy mind
  • Tuesday 13th (10am-5pm) - healthy eating and physical activity
  • Wednesday 14th (10am-5pm) - ‘Love Your Library Day’: on Valentine’s Day, Library Makers will be helping residents to get the most out of their libraries to support their well-being
  • Thursday 15th (10am-5pm) - health and wellbeing for children and young people, with the Healthwatch Youth Forum available to answer any questions.
  • Friday 16th (10am-4pm) - sexual health and with point of care testing provided by LBGT

Following the launch week, an ongoing programme of activities will continue across the year to help support Luton’s residents stay Well & Wise.

About Library Makers:
Library Makers is an Arts Council England funded project that gives anyone with a passion or interest in libraries and volunteering the opportunity to support us and get involved. Whether you are a supporter of Luton Central Library or want to actively get involved with your local branch library then there are opportunities for you.

Library Makers are people from all walks of life, with a unique set of interests, skills, passions and talents. They can be groups, organisations and individuals who share their skills and passions through showing support, donating and volunteering. Some of our Library Makers are students, retirees, parents and children, young professionals and young people, some who either have a lot of time to commit to their project, while others may have an hour a week or a week a year.
