About Friends of Luton Museums

The Association of Friends of Luton Museums was established in 1985 and is a full member of the British Association of Friends of Museums.

Since its formation the Association has donated in excess of £100,000 to the museums for the purchase of paintings, artifacts and the restoration of an Aveling and Porter 10 ton Steam roller, the stable yard clock at Stockwood and the current ongoing work to restore Luton’s last Tram.

Our largest single donation was £20,000 towards the purchase of the Wenlok Jug in 2006. The Wenlok Jug is one of Museums Luton’s treasures, and is on display at Stockwood Discovery Centre.

The Friends was also one of the key drivers in the re-development of one of the Stockwood Discovery Centre. This is one the reasons we believe that every little that we contribute to our museums, benefits the whole of the community.
