Computers in Libraries
Due to a technical fault, all public computers at Luton Libraries branches are currently out of service. Engineers are currently working to resolve the problem and we will post any updates as soon as we have more information. We Apologise for the inconvenience.
Luton Libraries have over 100 computers available for library members to use across Central and branch libraries. The computers are able to access the Internet and have Microsoft Office - including Word, Excel and Powerpoint. There is an acceptable use policy which all library members must agree to before logging onto a computer. Library members get one hour free access per day, but any extra time must be paid for, currently the charge is £1 per half hour. Children have free access.
Free WiFi is available at Luton Libraries and Library Access Points.
The acceptable use policy states that you must have your library card with you when you use a computer and that you agree:
- not to access or transmit any material which is obscene, racist, defamatory or illegal
- not to access or transmit any material which causes harrassment or offence to others
- not to tamper in any way with the hardware, software or general running of the computers
- stop using a computer when asked to do so by a member of staff
Staff can provide basic help and support in using the computers.
Children under sixteen years old must have the permission of a parent or carer to use the computers. Children under eight years old must have a suitable adult with them.
Please note that Internet access is filtered and monitored in Luton Libraries. If you believe you have been denied access to a web site that should be available, or you accessed a web site that you believe should not be available, please speak to a member of staff and provide details of the web address.
Anyone accessing the computers for a commercial transaction does so at their own risk.
The full acceptable use policy is available below as a PDF.
